A gewd dey.

So to start the day off I drove over to Oakland. Not much traffic on the maze at around 11AM, so that’s nice. Headed over to pick up Paolo and drove to a Muay Thai place downtown. I paid $10 for a trial run before noticing that uh, hey, Muay Thai is kickboxing, and my feet are in no freaking condition for physical activity, let along KICKING things. Soooo… bad idea.

But it was fun anyway! A trainer taught me some nice punches and kicks, and although I had to rebandage my foot afterwards, I had a good time.

Afterwards Paolo and I grabbed an eat to bite and headed back to his place to watch Maury and burn some Good Eats episodes.

And I actually got some work! An owner of an IT company needed his site updated so I just spent a few hours messing around with Flash and sprucing up some HTML to get the page to production quality. That’ll feed me for a few days, and it’s proof that Craigslist kind of almost sometimes works!

Parents are out of town, so it’s up to me and Lily to walk the dog… which I should do now. Then I will come back and eat some fried chicken strips I made yesterday with expensive olive oil.

Jury Duty

So I’m using a kiosk in the Marin County Civic Center, in the jury duty waiting room. Exciting! I have never done jury duty before – I was always excused because I lived too far from home.

But that brings me to my next point – I have graduated! I am no longer at UCSC and the graduation ceremony was quite nice. Peep some pics my mom took here.

The ceremony was preceded and followed by two nights of fine dining in Santa Cruz – one night with my dad and stepmom at a California restaurant called Theo’s in Capitola, and another with all three of my parents and Lily at an Italian restaurant called Star Bene. It was all very good times. My mom got me a big ol’ cook book that I am definitely going to use like every day this summer, and my sister got me a bag o’ Kisses. :D

I think the fact that I’m not living in Santa Cruz anymore hasn’t really kicked in just yet, but I’m jumping into summer in full swing. Actually… I take that back. Although I’m already settled in and my room at Dad’s is my new high-tech headquarters, I’m unemployed. So I’m checking craigslist at any opportunity I get, and looking for short-term computer gigs. Not sure if it’s the best way of going about this, but I am getting replies – and my resume and portfolio certainly help.

Okay the jury duty lady is totally speaking right now so I should go bye!

Quite the day!

So even though yesterday I was like “MY FOOT IS THE BEST!” right after I posted that my foot started hurting like a bitch-hole. I was even at a performance that my friend was going to act in but I had to leave early and get home and make sure that like, my toenail hadn’t become serrated or something, because that’s what it felt like. Sharp, abrupt pain.

This morning I woke up and headed straight to the health center, where I got a prescription antibiotic that should cut down on the swelling, which is the cause of most of the pain. That should let my nail grow out naturally and everything won’t hurt like hell anymore.

Then I used up the rest of my flexi-dollars by going to the fancy restaurant above the College 9/10 dining hall. I got a fondue of 4 cheeses with Francesce for dipping, a local seafood chowder, and dungeness crab cakes with baby greens. Fancy-shmancy indeed, but definitely worth two quesadillas and a shake at the Hungry Slug.

Then in the afternoon I went with Zack and Nico to see Knocked Up, which was as well-done and funny as everyone said! I was laughin’ at everything. I recommend it.

Finally we headed to Pink Godzilla in Capitola, which I said I’d go to before leaving the Santa Cruz area. Because we made a reservation they put us in a private room with the Japanese screen-walls and stuff. The food was nice, too. Really not as amazing as everyone says it is – I still think Sushi to Dai For in San Rafael is my favorite sushi place – but everything was pretty cheap too, so it was definitely worth it.

And now I’m back here and just about to witness everyone move out! :( My roommate his friends are over in the room and they’re playing some Rainbow Six Vegas on an HD projector. That’s pretty kewl.

Went downtown

So today I turned in my final assignment at UCSC: a small 3-page paper answering two out of ten question prompts for Structure of English. I’m totally done! Now I can sell my books back, and pick up my cap and gown while I’m at it.

My toe is doing a lot better. After reading the entry on onychocryptosis, I got sort of freaked out about the possibility of gangrene and got some bacitracin ointment and band-aids. Working awesome! No more infections, no more bleeding/pussing into my socks. Sure, there’s still the occasional jolt of excruciating pain whenever I touch the front of my toe to anything, like my sock for example, but it’s definitely getting better.

Today I went downtown for lack of anything better to do, and tried ridding of my remaining pile of Boardwalk tokens. Played two games of ITG, and surprisingly, it wasn’t a world of pain. My toe can stand it. But now that the Boardwalk’s open 7 days a week, parking there is expensive, so I didn’t stay long. I bought a replacement audio cable for connecting my Wii to my speaker system, got a matcha green tea Jamba Juice, and contemplated buying a new bathing suit (and decided against it when I couldn’t find anything under 50 freaking dollars).

Summer has started, huway huway. I realized that Father’s Day is on Sunday, which is really funny, because I also realized that I’m driving to Marin on Saturday night, but my parents are staying at a hotel in Santa Cruz that night. So while I’ll be back in Marin, my parents will be here… odd.

Oh BTW, Safari doesn’t work on this installation of Vista, but I just got it to work on my laptop. Very, very spiffy! Elegant, peppy, and full of all the pretty features in Mac OS X, like Spotlight, Aqua, smooth text, and fold-down alert messages. A definite step above the iTunes port.

Ah yeah and finally I am working to redo my portfolio. It’ll actually look and function identically to the way it does now, but I’m recoding it in ActionScript 3.0.

edit: Really finally probably this time: I hear there’s mad fun going on somewhere downtown tonight and contrary to popular believe I like fun. Somebody alert me on the location of fun.
