Revenge, justice

This hits me almost every time I listen to or read the news…

We’ve got our government going around and making excuses for the ways prisoners are treated in places like Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, while simply not apologizing for what’s happened… and I guess it really makes sense. Why are we in Iraq in the first place? To me, it looks like we’re there to exact America’s unfocused rage and vengeance on a place that, to us, looks like it could use a little beating up. In this way, America as a whole looks just like a solitary soldier who’s filled with blind patriotism and is taking it out on a solitary prisoner, by making him defecate on himself or whatever you’d like to hear about what’s happening in these prisons.

So our army recruits these dumb, uneducated Americans to go and beat people senseless over some false sense of pride that we’ve instilled in them, and our government doesn’t even think twice. What I’m saying it that it’s probably because our country as a whole is acting like one of these dumb, uneducated American soldiers.

Revenge is such a primitive concept. We’ll hold grudges forever. Supporters of this war obviously don’t see it, but this is a perfect example of revenge being taken out on the wrong people, and even so – if it was taken out on the right people, what would that do? We’re spreading even more hatred by doing so, case in point, the emerging Iraqi civil war between the Shiites and the Sunnis, something almost unrelated to what our goals are… whatever those might be.

Call it karma if you like, but I just like to call it cause and effect – our nation is greatly suffering because of what we’re doing to other nations. Nothing good has come of our hatred and sense of “justice.” It’s becoming more apparent every day. The economy, worldwide support, PUBLIC OPINION POLLS, you name it. I feel bad about the fact that it’s come to affect me and those about whom I care, but given what our country’s doing, I completely understand why it’s happening. There’s no reason why not.

Oh well.

I did it again!

I made my own food, WOO! And this time the end product doesn’t look like shit, but like last time, it also doesn’t taste like shit either!!! :D

I made pot stickers from scratch, using yet another recipe from GBSFood. Something Awful saves my life once again!

My babies, pre-incineration. Only a few came out retarded after folding everything up.

End result!

Check out that texture.

Pork and cabbage innards!

They look different than in the original recipe because 1) I flipped ’em over a few times to get both sides browned, 2) they’re freaking MASSIVE – the original recipe was supposed to make like, 5 times as much or something, and 3) I’m still a cooking newb. I didn’t screw anything up, though, and like I said, the end product was taaaaaasteeeeeeee. And I’ve still got enough of everything to make yet another batch, and I just might.

Nice view.

This is my favorite view of the bay.

You might be asking, wtf that’s totally ugly that’s all factories ‘n shit, but take this into consideration:

1) You’re drivin’ on the highway while you see this so everything’s moving
2) Later in the evening, during sunset or afterwards, lights are lit up all around
3) You see all of this at one single point:

  • Oakland
  • Port Oakland
  • San Francisco
  • Golden Gate Bridge
  • Bay Bridge
  • Water treatment plant (but it looks hecka cool)
  • Emeryville
  • Mount Tamalpais
  • Most of the bay itself
  • Car head and tail lights on the road to the Bay Bridge
  • A sunset

So taking away the fact that yes, you can barely see over the shoulder and that you only really get a glimpse of everything for just a bit, it’s still a freaking awesome view. I tried taking a panoramic shot but this one image was the only one that came out reasonably well.

In other good picture-taking news, new profile photo and LJ icon.

  • Blasphemy!

    Blasphemy #1:

New hair! Gave up on the long hair experiment. I just couldn’t do it guyz. :(

    Blasphemy #2:

After like an entire forever of never having a cell phone ever, I finally got one. Number’s up there. Everyone totally add me and call me and stuff like that. I need all your numbers too, so give me them one way or another please.

This isn’t to say that it was ever gone, but it’s got a backend again, meaning I can edit the strips, but most importantly, COMMENTS WORK AGAIN. My blog’s also readable through the front page again – hooray for LiveJournal embedding. So yeah, take another look through it.

    New comics start tomorrow.
