Gosh, I am using Ubuntu Dapper Drake on my Inspiron 9300 and I’m enjoying it immensely. I’ve added a bunch of repositories with awesome free stuff and I also enabled Xgl/compiz so my windows wobble, desktops rotate, I get Exposé features… I really feel as if I’m using a next-gen OS. At this point, I’d say the ONLY thing I’m missing is productivity tools like Flash. If only there was some hope of virtualization or something of the sort…
epilogue: 15 minutes after I posted this, I made the mistake of using gparted as a partition editor, which blew away my Windows XP NTFS partition. In retaliation, I installed Windows Vista Beta 2 over Ubuntu so I could recover what I lost in the Windows XP partition…
How’s getting audio stuff set up?
It detected my soundcard automatically… as for other “sound stuff” – well, I just installed some MP3 playing packages from an unofficial repository, and I installed Timidity++ for MIDI synthesis. That’s about it, everything’s fine.

Re: BONE316
The whole thing just came out a few days ago, so if there’s nothing to update then you’re already set.
Re: BONE316
If you’re looking to install new stuff go to Administration > Synaptic Package Manager and install new stuff there.
