The Haps

I haven’t done a regular blog for a while, so I thought I’d put my to-do list into prose.
First of all, this morning I woke up at 5:50 to apply for Birthright. They opened it at exactly 5:57, so I got about halfway through the application before thousands of other folks flooded the registration server and slowed it to a halt. So an otherwise simple registration form took about 30 minutes to complete. No biggie! Mer signed up for it real early too, so here’s hoping we both get in! In the meantime, I have to make sure my passport’s renewed.
I’ve been getting in trouble for my car a lot recently. First of all, I’m finally doing online traffic school because of the +12MPH speed violation back in November… I have more than two months left to complete it, so I’m doing one module at a time whenever I can.
Second, due to a little misunderstanding, my stepmom didn’t mail me the registration bill for my car until two months too late… so I had to pay a penalty for it. I’m willing to pay that extra $50 because she gave me the car as a present… but then I went down to my car a few days later and noticed that I got a ticket for the exact same thing – my registration tabs weren’t up-to-date. So when I finally get my tabs in the mail, I’ll have to fight with the campus police so I don’t have to pay an extra $97 for the extra violation.
I sent in my application to University of Washington! I also sent a transcript and my GRE scores their way, but I’ve still got my statement of purpose to finish up, as well as making sure my professors here finish up their letters of recommendation. I’ve still got two weeks to get all that done, though, so that’s no big rush either.
Over the weekend I’m going to be acting in a film guy’s final project. On Saturday, I’ll be a priest. On Sunday, I’ll be a skinhead.
…but what’s that? Don’t skinheads not have a lot of hair?
Yeah I decided that I’ll be shavin’ all of it off over the weekend. I’ll go from the longest hair I’ve ever had, to the shortest. I don’t really look good either way, but I might as well go for the shock factor.
Yesterday I took Jocelyn out for Thai! It was her first time having Thai and there is no better place to do it (in Santa Cruz) than at the Thai Noodle Kitchen on Mission. Let’s hear it for awesome pad see-ew.
And all this has been done in the midst of the academically busiest quarter ever. I’m finally done with all my midterms but now come all the final projects and research papers. Speaking about this I thought I’d have enough time to write this entire entry but I actually don’t and I need to run to class now so goodbye.

Be prepared for an onslaught of questions and comments the likes of which you’ve never seen before.
Seriously. People I never spoke to in my life that, for all I know, had never acknowledged my existence before, felt like they needed to come up to me and comment on my appearance change. It was pretty bizarre.
I don’t know why shaving your head is seen as such a huge change more so than a normal haircut is. I mean, a lot of our most prominent athletes and musicians are skinheads. It’s not THAT big a deal.
Good luck with the car and your trip.
