Critique: Shareware

Hey guys I think I’m going to try something new with this journaling endeavor that is my journal tat is live! When I come across sites whose designs I find could use some work or are especially commendable for some reason, I’ll screenshot ’em, put some stickies all over it, and give a little summary. I’ll put ’em behind cuts, too. Here’s the first one:

Shareware.com, especially as a subsidary of Cnet, has had some pretty shoddy design work done to it. While its overall color scheme is nice and provides what it’s trying to put forth in the right place, it could pass off as any “domain parking” site at the wink of an eye. D minus! Or maybe I won’t give them grades. I just think D minus is a hopelessly silly grade.

  1. shareware.com
Wow. That really is awful. The main content of the page looks like text advertisements.
It always amazes me when a major company has a completely craptastic website. It’s not that hard to put together a simple design that presents your content clearly.

    1. Yeah, I call ’em “domain parking” sites.
I choose such weird names for my domain that they don’t get “parked” after I’m done with ’em, though. No one likes assburst.com. :[
