On Demand

We’ve now got Comcast On Demand with our digital cable service, and for once it’s actually something worth watching TV for… because it’s a lot like a free little video store. The selection is actually quite impressive.
They had 2 episodes of Azumanga Daioh available to watch, actually… I’ve seen the entire series fansubbed, but this one was dubbed. Uh… yeah, now I remember why (if I watch any anime at all) I don’t watch dubs. Although giving Osaka a southern accent was a nice touch, the entirety of the jokes is lost in translation.
For example, that “Bruce Lee” joke where his name is pronounced “Blue Three” in Japan… they basically left that entire joke in, without mentioning Bruce Lee, but mentioning Jackie Chan as per the original punchline. What’s funniest of all is that it seems the channel that it’s from, Anime Network or something, has Japanese announcers with subtitles just to appeal to otakus. I dunno. I stopped watching anime.
Also I saw the episode of ATHF with everyone’s eyes getting horribly infected and squeezing pus all over the place and I remembered why I didn’t really like that show.

  1. yeah we watched the dub
in an unofficial anime viewing, cuz everyone was tired of reading subs on a tiny tv
according to on guy that loves the show, it’s horrible dubbed, though I think its pretty good, since the Osaka dialect is “southern” it would only make sense to give her a southern accent.
